Ao longo do primeiro ano de vida, a criança escuta os sons de sua língua e começa a produzir parte deles, os primeiros sons da fala produzidos são as vogais, em seguida a criança inicia a produção de sons com os lábios (como o mamá, papá, babá) e os outros sons vão surgindo.
As primeiras palavras surgem aos 12 meses e espera-se que com cinco anos (aproximadamente), as crianças já consigam falar todos os sons da sua língua. Crianças a partir de quatro anos já utilizam frases com muitas palavras, contam fatos que já ocorreram, contam histórias, definem palavras – dizendo a cor/forma/função, fazem perguntas, compreendem e dão ordens, reconhecem tamanho/forma/cor e separam os objetos de acordo com essas características; reconhecem e nomeiam animais/pessoas/objetos/partes do corpo.
Com relação à estimulação da linguagem infantil, vale ressaltar:
-Conversar diariamente com a criança;
-Contar histórias e cantar músicas;
-Compartilhar atividades diárias com a criança, narrando o que está sendo feito;
-Dar preferência e compartilhar brincadeiras e jogos adequados à idade da criança;
-Incentivar a leitura de livros com frases menores e figuras.
